Sultan of Selangor Cup: Representing Veterans Not Yet in Duric Plans
Written by: Khalis Rifhan – Shah Alam Stadium
Former Singapore international Aleksandar Duric had previously played against Selangor in the AFC Cup but according to the Tampines Rovers striker, it was one of the best Red Giants performances that he had ever encountered in the Sultan of Selangor Cup 2013.
The S.League Selection went down 3-2 to the home side at the Shah Alam stadium, Francis Fokey Doe making the headlines with his brilliant showing, scoring a brace, the second a beautiful curler to the top corner.
“This is one of the most competitive Selangor team. They finished their season after crashing out of the Malaysia Cup (group stage) and today, in front of a big crowd, they are fired up to beat us.” said the 43-year old player after the match
“We started positively but after the goal we sat back a bit, allowing them to play and we got punished. They deserved the win and credits to them, we tried and had a few chances but we did no convert it.”
Duric had turned out for the S.League Selection in several editions and he had nothing but good words for the annual one-off match between the traditional rivals.
“I always enjoy this kind of game, especially with the crowd. As a player we want to win all matches, although we could not do it we enjoyed ourselves as we don’t play in front of such crowds every day”.
While the veterans’ match that was played prior to the SOS Cup had ex-Lions that are younger than Duric, taking the field for the curtain raiser next year is not in striker’s mind especially after experiencing two consecutive losses.
“No, not yet (playing for the veterans). Maybe as a coach of the S.League Selection.” he quipped
